Since the introduction of the notion of human development in the 1970s and its adoption into the Human Development Report by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), human development remains one of the most important agendas, requiring international effort to address. With the COVID-19 pandemic prevailing around the world, issues regarding human development have become even more important. In this study, we aim to assess the effect of foreign direct investment (FDI) on human development. Moreover, we investigate the moderating effect of official development assistance (ODA) on the relationship between FDI and human development. Using panel data from the Human Development Index (HDI), covering 130 recipients between 1990 and 2018, our empirical results indicate that FDI has a positive impact on human development in recipient countries. Moreover, the moderating effect of ODA on the relationship between FDI and human development is confirmed, indicating that ODA might weaken the relationship between FDI and human development. This study reveals the positive impact of FDI on human development, but raises questions of ODA effectiveness.

Research Originality: The second-largest organisation after the UN, with a population of 24.4% worldwide, makes OIC countries a potential market. This paper contributes to the existing literature on trade within them by focusing on crucial aspects of the trade agreement's impact on the halal food industry.Research Objectives: This study examines the influence of a free trade agreement (FTA) on Indonesian halal food exports.Research Methods: Using panel data from 23 countries spanning the period from 2003 to 2019, the paper employs the gravity model to assess the impact of the FTA and other variables on Indonesian halal food exports to OIC countries.Empirical Results: The findings indicate that Indonesian food exports to OIC countries with FTAs experience a notable 68% increase compared to those without such agreements. The study reveals GDP, population size, trade openness, and exchange rate positively affect food exports to OIC countries. However, trading partners' distance and entry time exhibit a negative correlation.Implications: This research holds significance for the Indonesian government as it provides valuable insights for considering the acceleration of trade agreement ratification with OIC countries. Impacts of Regional Trade Agreements on the Trade Effects of Financial Development

Regional trade agreements (RTAs) significantly reduce tariff and non-tariff barriers, facilitate capital flow and improve financing conditions, which can help exporters ease financing constraints and promote export. This paper studies the impacts of RTAs signed by member countries of Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) on the trade effects of financial development, using the gravity model with industry level bilateral trade data from 2000 to 2021. The results show that with RTAs, exporters’ dependence on financial development of home countries has decreased, and there is a similar mechanism in importing countries. However, exporters’ decreasing dependence on financial development is different, i.e., the decreasing dependence of exporters in industries rely heavily on external financing is smaller than that in other industries.
