The Modified Gaussian Function based RED (MGF-RED) Algorithm for Congestion Avoidance in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

Abstract: In this paper the idea is to rationale a new active queue management technique (MGF-RED) based on Random Early Detection (RED), a well known active queue management technique for congestion avoidance. The conventional RED uses the concept of minimum threshold, maximum threshold and average queue length. If the average queue length increases by minimum threshold then the algorithm start dropping the packets with some probability using linear function of average queue size. If the average queue size is greater t… Show more

“…First of all, on the whole, when the problem scale is small, the quality of the initial population is generally higher, the greater crossover probability δ and smaller mutation probability φ can be used to get the optimal solution as far as possible; when the problem scale α is large and the initial population is of poor quality, we can use the smaller crossover probability and greater mutation probability φ to protect the gene structure as far as possible, guarantee the quality of the solution and avoid local optimum. At the same time, in the iterative process, by considering the number of iterations η and the fitness value f changes, we further improve the solution quality and convergence speed [10].…”

“…Obviously, the packet delivery time is of importance in all sorts of networks. Therefore, AQM is recommended by researchers and engineers for wired networks [1,2], wireless sensor networks [3][4][5], LTE and 5G networks [6,7], mobile ad hoc networks [8,9], satellite networks [10,11], and others.…”

“…In the literature, many types of function d(i) are used in AQM, e.g., linear [12], quadratic [13], sinusoidal [14], cubic [15,16], exponential [17], beta [18], and Gaussian functions [9]. Additionally, some researchers propose d(i) in a combined form, consisting of two linear functions [19], linear and quadratic functions [20], linear and cubic functions [21], linear and exponential functions [22], or quadratic and exponential functions [23].…”
