The mossflora of Camiguin Island, Philippines and their floristic relations to some adjacent islands in the archipelago

Abstract: The moss flora of Camiguin Island, based on a 2007 expedition conducted by the author, totaled 129 species in 66 genera and 29 families. This represents 17.36% of the 743 moss species and 26.83% of the 246 genera of mosses reported for the Philippines (Linis & Tan 2008). Of these, one taxon, Aerobryopsis cochlearifolia Dix., is reported for the first time in the archipelago. Floristically, Camiguin moss flora is identified more with Mindoro and Luzon within the Philippine archipelago. Likewise, the presence of… Show more

“…, as well as subsequent publications by Linis (2010) and Linis and Tan (2010), estimate the total moss flora for the Philippines as 755 species in 238 genera and 56 families. However, continued study of the many unidentified bryological collections kept at the Philippine National Herbarium (PNH), including those of the senior author, has added eight new species and one generic record.…”

“…The last twenty years have witnessed a series of new publications dealing with the Philippine moss flora not only for Luzon (Linis and Tan 2008, 2013, Linis 2014) but also for Mindanao (Azuelo et al 2015, Tan and Shevock 2014 and its adjacent islands, Camiguin, for example (Linis 2010). The latest information provided by these new publications have increased our knowledge about the moss flora of these islands, and there are now 645 species in 229 genera known from Luzon Island and 362 species in 152 genera known for the island of Mindanao.…”
