The multi-modal interface of Robot-Era multi-robot services tailored for the elderly

Abstract: Socially assistive robotic platforms are now a realistic option for the long-term care of ageing populations. Elderly users may benefit from many services provided by robots operating in different environments, such as providing assistance inside apartments, serving in shared facilities of buildings or guiding people outdoors. In this paper, we IDLab, IMEC, Ghent University, Ghent, Belgium present the experience gained within the EU FP7 ROBOT-ERA project towards the objective of implementing easy-touse and acc… Show more

“…Due to the fact that humanoid robots are not commonly used in Poland yet, as well as that participants might not be familiar with programming robots with any graphical tool such as Choregraphe, the Nao robot might be seen as a very complicated device, and it is necessary to cooperate with IT specialists during its continuous use. However, personal previous experience with technology devices which is more significantly related to perceived ease of technology use than the age and education (Di Nuovo et al, ) was not controlled in this study.…”

“…VSD, another approach, aims to produce systems which are sensitive to indirect and direct stakeholders' values by involving them in the design process (Friedman et al 2006). UCD has been used for designing socially assistive long-term care robots (Di Nuovo et al 2018), elderly care service robot interactions (Mast et al 2012), and recommendations for every day, domestic robots (Sung 2011). VSD has also been applied to care robot design.…”
