“…The calibration of HD-v2 films was performed at the Neutralized Drift Compression Experiment II (NDCX-II) particle accelerator at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). [23][24][25] NDCX-II can deliver short helium and now also proton pulses with a pulse duration of 2 to ∼10 ns (full-width at half-maximum, FWHM), as shown in Fig. 1.…”

“…The possibility of efficient acceleration of these ion species has already been demonstrated within the TNSA regime 13 . With these forseen upgrades, the beamline might enter a comparable parameter regime as the proposed NDCX-II machine 28 .…”

“…NDCX-II is a facility that enables such experiments. The linear induction accelerator NDCX-II is designed to deliver short, intense helium ion pulses 1 , up to several tens of nC/pulse, or 10 10 -10 11 ions, with a peak kinetic energy of approximately 1.1 MeV and a repetition rate of one shot every 45 s. The ~12 m long accelerator consists of a helium plasma ion source driven by a filament 2 , induction cells for particle acceleration and axial compression, diagnostic cells and a neutralized drift compression section 3 . Solenoids, with a maximum magnetic field of 2.5 T, in each cell steer and focus the beam radially.…”
