The nonlocal universe

Abstract: We propose that the universe is nonlocal and that the appropriate worldview or paradigm for this understanding is nonlocal realism. Currently the worldview of local realism guides and frames the understanding and interpretations of science. Local realism was the worldview employed by Einstein in his relativity theories, but the principles of this paradigm have operated as the guiding framework for the rest of classic science for more than a century. This paper points to incoherencies in local realism and to th… Show more

“…It is not necessary to repeat our theory of meaning here except to say that David Bohm’s research and discussions of meaning have greatly influenced our understanding and analysis. In his book, Unfolding Meaning: A Weekend of Dialogue with David Bohm [ 15 ] Bohm connects meaning to cosmic and local consciousness, and that interconnection we have called Omni-local consciousness [ 8 ]. Amongst his many comments and statements on meaning Bohm maintains, ‘We can say that human meanings contribute to the cosmos, but we can also say that the cosmos may be ordered according to a kind of ‘objective’ meaning’ [ 16 ].…”

“…For example, within the context of wholeness, the human mind becomes an embedded subdivision within the whole infinite field of consciousness. In our 2022 paper, we called this singularity Omni-local consciousness and in our 2020 paper suggested its essential implicit character was nonlocal [ 8 ] while its secondary character was local, which for humans is the local human mind. In other words, Omni-local consciousness represents an infinite field of relations that are not everywhere the same but have a predetermined structure that is simultaneously nonlocal and local, that is implicit and explicit.…”

“…However, by focussing on the physical world certain terms he uses, such as ‘order’ when used to refer to the implicate and explicate orders masks to some extent the implication that these are the orders of meaning. In general, our holistic theory of meaning is entirely inclusive, non-Cartesian and that means while inclusive of the local human mind it also has a focus on universal consciousness, which in another place we have called the nonlocal [ 7 ].…”

“…As the organizing agency of parts is traditionally seen as a local agency, so too the agency of the whole must represent a nonlocal agency. The order of the whole can thus be called a nonlocal order and following Bohm’s model in another place we have called this nonlocal order, ‘The Nonlocal Universe’ [ 7 ].…”

“…This framework of mind is the consequence of a culture of scientific activity and philosophical debate over the last three centuries that presents a divided and partial picture of a universe that is whole and non-local. It ignores the observer's role in detecting complexity where a system's collective behavior gives rise to structural modifications and new hierarchical arrangements [10]. AGI systems that rely on an integrated knowledge representation of its external reality require the ability to learn and represent knowledge as time ensues.…”
