IntroductionGreen sea turtles are endangered marine reptiles. Carapacial ulcers will develop on juvenile green sea turtles during artificial rescue, seriously affecting their health and potentially leading to death.MethodsTo determine the pathogens causing ulcerative carapacial disease, we performed 16S and ITS high-throughput sequencing, and microbial diversity analysis on samples from carapacial ulcers, healthy carapaces, feces, and seawater of juvenile green sea turtles.ResultsOur analysis showed that changes in microbial diversity of green sea turtle feces and seawater were not significantly associated with ulcerative carapacial disease.DiscussionPsychrobacter sp. is the dominant species in the carapacial ulcers of green sea turtles. The bacterium is present in both healthy turtles and seawater where carapacial ulcers did not occur and decreasing seawater temperatures are likely responsible for the infection of juvenile green turtles with Psychrobacter sp. This is the first study on carapacial ulcers in captive juvenile green sea turtles. Our research provides theoretical guidance for the prevention and control of carapacial ulcers in captive juvenile green sea turtles.

Bu çalışmada, Tekirdağ ilinde bir tavuk çiftliğinde saptanan Corynebacterium ve Arcanobacterium spp. enfeksiyon olgusu sunuldu. Tekirdağ Namık Kemal Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi Mikrobiyoloji Anabilim Dalı Laboratuvarına gözde tek taraflı şiddetli keratokonjunktivitise bağlı kapanma, yüzde ödem ve solunum güçlüğü şikâyetiyle getirilen bir tavuğa nekropsi yapıldı. Tavuğun gözünden alınan irin ve diğer nekropsi materyallerinden (akciğer, kalp, karaciğer,dalak) uygun besi yerlerine ekimler yapıldı. İzole edilen bakterilerin identifikasyonu amacıyla rutin biyokimyasal testler uygulandı. Nekropsi makrsoskobik incelemede; gözün tamamen kapandığı ve içerisinin irinle dolu olduğu, akciğerde konjeste alanlar ve multifokal renk değişimleri ile kalpte hafif bir büyüme gözlendi. Materyallerden yapılan ekimlerde Columbia agar (%5 koyun kanlı) ve Tryptic Soy agarda üreme olurken, Mac Conkey ve Eosin Methylene Blue agarda üreme görülmedi. Karaciğer ve dalaktan yapılan ekimlerde üreme olmadı. Gram boyamada Gram pozitif çomaklar ve kokobasiller tespit edildi. Biyokimyasal testlerle; gözden alınan irinden Corynebacterium spp., akciğerden alınan örnekten Arcanobacterium spp. ve kalpten alınan örnekten Corynebacterium spp. izole ve identifiye edildi. İzole edilen bu etkenler kanatlı hayvan türleri için potansiyel hastalık riski oluşturması açısından kayda değer bulundu.

“…Multiple novel species have been isolated from penguins: Corynebacterium sphenisci [6] and Corynebacterium spheniscorum [7], both originating from apparently healthy Magellanic penguins, Corynebacterium antarcticum , Corynebacterium marambiense , Corynebacterium meridianum and Corynebacterium pygosceleis [11], originating from apparently healthy Adélie penguins, and Corynebacterium megadyptis , isolated from yellow-eyed penguin chicks with diphtheritic stomatitis [12]. Several studies have suggested a link between corynebacteria and various penguin diseases, such as diphtheritic stomatitis [8, 12, 13], bumblefoot infections [9], and ocular lesions [14]. However, data on their actual pathogenicity are limited and further research is required to clarify their role in the pathogenesis of these diseases.…”

The taxonomic status of strain P5891T, isolated from an Adélie penguin beak swab, was investigated. Based on the 16S rRNA gene sequence, the strain was identified as a potentially novel Corynebacterium species, with the highest sequence similarities to Corynebacterium rouxii FRC0190T (96.7 %) and Corynebacterium epidermidicanis DSM 45586T (96.6 %). The average nucleotide identity values between strain P5891T and C. rouxii FRC0190T and C. epidermidicanis DSM 45586T were 68.2 and 69.2 %, respectively. The digital DNA–DNA hybridization values between strain P5891T and C. rouxii FRC0190T and C. epidermidicanis DSM 45586T were 23.7 and 21.4 %, respectively. Phylogenetic trees based on the 16S rRNA sequence placed strain P5891T in a separate branch with Corynebacterium canis 1170T and Corynebacterium freiburgense 1045T, while a phylogenomic tree based on the Corynebacterium species core genome placed the strain next to Corynebacterium choanae 200CHT. Extensive phenotyping and genomic analyses clearly confirmed that strain P5891T represents a novel species of the genus Corynebacterium , for which the name Corynebacterium mendelii sp. nov. is proposed, with the type strain P5891T (=CCM 8862T=LMG 31627T).
