The Old Testament in the New, Intertextuality and Allegory

Abstract: This article examines the phenomenon of the investigation of the New Testament use of the Old Testament by discussing representative twentieth-century approaches to the question, the relevance of the literary-critical concept of 'intertextuality', the ground-breaking semiotic approach of Stefan Alkier, and the possibilities afforded for allegorical interpretation.
