The Optimal Choice of Hypothesis Is the Weakest, Not the Shortest

Abstract: <p>If <em>A</em> and <em>B</em> are sets such that <em>A</em> is a subset of <em>B</em>, generalisation may be understood as the inference from <em>A</em> of a hypothesis sufficient to construct <em>B</em>.
