The Optimal Combination of Dietary Starch, Non-Starch Polysaccharides, and Mannan-Oligosaccharide Increases the Growth Performance and Improves Butyrate-Producing Bacteria of Weaned Pigs

Abstract: The present experiment was conducted to dissect the effects of different carbohydrate combinations on the growth performance, nutrient digestibility, and microbial communities in weaned pigs. The combination was optimized by constructing L9(34) orthogonal design. Three factors include starch (amylose to amylopectin (AM/AP) ratio 2:1, 1:1, 1:2), non-starch polysaccharides (NSP) (1%, 2%, 3%, a mixture of inulin with cellulose by 1:1), and mannan-oligosaccharide (MOS) (400, 800, 1200 mg/kg) were investigated and … Show more

“…Mannan oligosaccharides (MOS) are structural cell wall components of Saccharomyces cerevisiae ( Van den Abbeele et al, 2020 ). In monogastric animals, supplementation dietary MOS brought uplifting effects including improvement growth performance and nutrients digestion, promotion health status, boosting gastrointestinal tract morphological integrity, enhancement antioxidant capacity, facilitation immunological status, upregulation immune related gene expression ( Ren et al, 2020 ; Van den Abbeele et al, 2020 ; Zhou et al, 2020 ).…”

“…Similar effects were noted for piglets when the pregnant and lactating sows received inulin (Paßlack et al, 2015;McCormack et al, 2019;Li et al, 2020). Many studies Castillo et al, 2008;Agazzi et al, 2020;Zhou et al, 2020) focused on the effect of mannooligosaccharides (MOS) as an additive to feed for piglets at weaning age.…”

“…2020) also demonstrated that dietary supplementation with 0.6% stachyose significantly decreased the cecal concentration of skatole compared with raffinose in broilers [10]. The results from Liu et al (2020) further demonstrated that broiler cecal skatole levels can be influenced by dietary stachyose levels, and 5 g/kg stachyose in the diet was suggested [20].…”
