The Origins of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus-2

Abstract: An outbreak of severe pneumonia of unknown cause was identified in Wuhan, China in December 2019: the causative agent was a novel betacoronavirus, severe acute respiratory syndrome-cotonavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), a virus that joins a list of coronaviruses causing severe (e.g., SARS and Middle East respiratory syndrome) or milder (e.g., 229E, OC43, NL63, and HKU1) respiratory tract infection. The World Health Organization (WHO) classified the spreading outbreak as a pandemic on March 11, 2020. Many SARS-related cor… Show more

“…The current study revealed that levels of vitamin D in the adult population tended to increase as the pandemic began and progressed. The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic began in December 2019 when an outbreak of severe pneumonia of unknown cause was identified in Wuhan, China [63]. Romania confirmed its first case of SARS-CoV-2 on 26 February 2020 [64].…”

“…The second claim has now been comprehensively disproved in work by scientists from Australia and elsewhere, which have shown that the SARS-CoV-2 features that allow ready human transmission can all arise by natural evolutionary processes in animals (Andersen et al, 2020 ; Dwyer 2022 ; Holmes et al 2021 ). Through meticulous analysis of the viral sequence these studies have identified no evidence of human intervention, through genetic modification, including addition or deletion of sequences.…”

“…No dia 7 de janeiro de 2020, as autoridades chinesas confirmaram a nova cepa de coronavírus, denominada de síndrome respiratória aguda grave do coronavírus-2 (Sars-CoV-2, do inglês severe acute respiratory coronavirus-2) que atualmente está disseminado por toda parte do mundo (Dwyer, 2023).…”
