The parallel lives of autonomous systems

Abstract: Autonomous Systems (ASes) exist in two dimensions on the Internet: the administrative and the operational one. Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) rule the former, while BGP the latter. In this work, we reconstruct the lives of the ASes on both dimensions, performing a joint analysis that covers 17 years of data. For the administrative dimension, we leverage delegation files published by RIRs to report the daily status of Internet resources they allocate. For the operational dimension, we characterize the temp… Show more

“…But the studies about user recognition of devices on the Internet are quite few. Querying public databases, such as WHOIS of IANA [4], ASO with querying protocol BGP [5], and rDNS (reversed domain name system) with querying protocol DNS [6], is a common way to identify the users of large-scale devices. However, it has many limitations: (1) many organizations recorded in the databases are the registers or operators of IP addresses, and Internet service providers or cloud service providers, rather than the actual users, own most IP addresses.…”

“…Meanwhile, the switch functions as a center for exchange and distributes the resources needed by each member (Fardani & Neforawati, 2019). The IXP network internet infrastructure, namely ASN, functions to identify the unique identity of each member in the IXP network so that they can communicate with each other (Nemmi, et al, 2021). IDCloudHost is a hosting service provider that provides services such as domain registration, cloud hosting, servers (VPS & dedicated servers), and domain resellers in Indonesia (PT.…”
