Abstract:Hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) is the primary cause of worldwide pediatric acute renal failure. The vast majority of HUS is due to gastrointestinal infection with Shiga toxin producing Escherichia coli (STEC), bacteria that produce the ribosomal protein synthesis inhibitor Shiga toxin (Stx).
