Horizontal single‐axis solar tracking systems with Astronomical tracking algorithm are commonly used in photovoltaic (PV) installations. However, different algorithms could increase the PV installation’s performance without implementing new equipment or technologies. This paper compares the performance of three tracking algorithms to the Astronomical one. Two algorithms aim at optimizing the received irradiance focusing on the diffuse component. The third one, called Analytical, is presented as a new development in this study, defining the optimal inclination angle depending on all radiation components. The comparison focuses on different parameters like the in‐plane irradiance, DC power output from a monofacial PV system and operational aspects like the performed number of movements. High time resolution (1 minute) simulations have been performed with proprietary software taking into account several effects on the effective irradiance and power output estimation, such as shading effects or PV configuration. Eight locations with different climatic conditions have been analysed. All three algorithms derive in higher in‐plane irradiance and power output values than the Astronomical algorithm, although the gain depends on the climatic conditions. At locations with high diffuse fraction, the power output from the Analytical algorithm, which outperforms the others, could be up to 3% higher than the Astronomical one.This article is protected by copyright. Use of artificial roughness in the duct of solar air heater (SAH) has been an interesting area of research during the last few decades. In present review article a holistic view about application of circular shape wire ribs as roughness element and its different geometry on the absorber plate of SAH duct for performance enhancement has been done. This article, reported in details numerous experimental as well as analytical studies for rib roughened SAHs which have been carried out by different researchers positively. Correlations for heat transfer and friction factor, developed by various investigators for different artificially roughened solar air heaters (SAHs) geometry have been reported in chronological order and in well tabulated form. The roughness and operating parameters into which investigators have obtained their maximum performances of SAHs have also been presented separately in the table. Effects of various rib roughness parameters on heat transfer and fluid flow process are also discussed in details.

This study intends to better solar photovoltaic (PV) panel performance by employing anti-reflective coating and explore how dust affects solar panel effectiveness. Three equivalent solar PV panels were compared, having one of them being uncoated, the next one having a TiO2 nanomaterial coating, and the very last one having a SiO2 nanomaterial coating. PV panel surfaces are coated with superhydrophilicity TiO2 as well as superhydrophobic SiO2 nanomaterials using a cloth made of microfibers. With the aid of a photovoltaic (PV) analyser, the power output of each and every PV panel has been monitored during the month of November 2021. After one month of being exposed to the environment, the percentage improvement in efficiency for TiO2-coated panels was 7.66% and for SiO2 coated panels was 19.73% as compared to uncoated PV panels. Results demonstrate that SiO2 covered PV panels outperform the other two scenarios in terms of efficiency and power output. The frequency of photovoltaic panel washing is reduced by the application of coating. Different amounts of dust are evenly scattered on the surface of the PV panel in order to observe the effect of the dust. Additionally, as the amount of dust increases, the effectiveness of PV panels declines considerably. When 20g of dust is dispersed across the surface of a PV panel, its efficiency falls by 34.6 percent.
