The phenomenon of “dead” metal in heterogeneous catalysis: opportunities for increasing the efficiency of carbon-supported metal catalysts

Abstract: The key factors contributing to the formation of “dead” metal – the fraction of metal in supported catalysts that remains inaccessible to reactants – are examined. Strategies to minimize the formation of “dead” metal are analyzed.
