Changes in photopigment absorbance can occur by two processes: (1) a change in chromophore between Vitamin A, and A 2 as observed in eels (Beatty, 1975), trout (Allen & Munz, 1983), and temperate freshwater fish (Heinermann & Ali, 1989); or (2) a change in the opsin. In both the pollack (Shand et al, 1988) and winter flounder (this study), the chromophore does not change suggesting new opsins are involved.…”
