The photometric variability of the chromospherically active binary star HD 80715

Abstract: Differential UBVRl photometry of the double-lined BY Dra system HD 80715 (K3 V + K3 V) obtained in December 1987 is presented. We found the star to be a variable with a full amplitude of 0.06 mag in V and a period similar or equal to the orbital period of 3.804 days. We interpret the mechanism of the variability as rotational modulation due to dark starspots. In an attempt to detect chromospheric activity we obtained high-resolution CCD spectra at Ca il H and K and at Fe I 6430 A and Ca I 6439 A, the photosphe… Show more

“…We used v sin i = 4.0 km s −1 because with this value the match between the synthetic and observed spectra was the best. The same rotation speed was determined by Strassmeier et al (1988), Berdyugina (1994), and Montes et al (1994). This value is also close to v sin i = 4.5 km s −1 determined by Gray (1989).…”

“…HD 37847 = TW Lep is a SB2 spectroscopic binary with an orbital period of 28.344 days (Balona 1987) that has been recentely observed by several authors (see, among others, Strassmeier et al 1993a;Fox et al 1994;Cutispoto 1995 and references therein). It was detected by the ROSAT satellite during the all-sky EUV survey (Pye et al 1995).…”

“…HD 81410 = IL Hya is an SB1 spectroscopic binary that has been observed by several authors at different wavelenghts (see Strassmeier et al 1993a;Cutispoto 1993, 1995 andreferences therein). More recently, it has been detected by the ROSAT and EUVE satellites (Pye et al 1995;Bowyer et al 1996;Mitrou et al 1997).…”
