The physical properties of aqueous cationic–nonionic polyurethane with poly(ethylene glycol methyl ether) side chain and its blend with aqueous cationic polyurethane

Abstract: ABSTRACT:The cationic-nonionic dispersing centers with different chain lengths of poly ethylene glycol methyl ether (N-PDEA 750, N-PDEA 2000) were prepared from N-diethanol amine (NDEA), isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), and poly(ethylene glycol methyl ether) (PEO M w ϭ 750 and 2000), whereas aqueous cationic-nonionic polyurethane (N-PDEA PU) with different side chain lengths were prepared by N-PDEA 750 (or N-PDEA 2000), 4,4-methylene bis(isocyantocyclohexane) (H 12 MDI), polytetramethylene glycol (PTMG 2000), … Show more

“…Polyurethane (PU) and poly(ester-ether) (PEE) which are composed of poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) as the hard segment, and poly(tetramethylene glycol) (PTMG) as soft segments are two kinds of famous thermoplastic elastomers (7,8). However, these two kinds of TPEs still have some disadvantages.…”

“…Therefore, the PA1 is supposed to be a promising material with high performance and multifunction. Simultaneously, as a unique polymeric material composed of block copolymers with alternating hard and soft repeating segments, TPU has many repeated carbamate groups in its molecular chain, which contains not only secondary amino group (NH) that can provide protons but also carbonyl group (CO) that can accept protons . Accordingly, a strong hydrogen bonding interaction between TPU and PA1 can be formed, which may be beneficial to improve the compatibility and dielectric properties of TPU.…”

“…Nonionic polyurethanes, however, are more difficult to dispersing in water because of the weak hydrophilic character of the nonionic functional segments on backbone of polyurethanes. Recently, several scientists focused on the preparation and application of nonionic waterborne polyurethane which has hydrophilic side chains contributing to the stability of it in water system and simultaneously improving other mechanical properties 14–17. This article provides a convenient tactic that prepares a polyether with diols on chain end, which can react with isocyanates as a nonionic functional monomer.…”
