In low oil price era, it seems that ASP flooding has little market. However, ASP progress in China shows that ASP flooding is good technology to help oil companies thrive and make profit. Since 2014, ASP flooding has entered industrial application in Daqing oilfield. ASP flooding production in 2015 is 3.5 million ton, 9% of the oilfield’s total production of Daqing oilfield. There are 22 ASP flooding blocks in Daqing, containing 7231 wells and 3 are new blocks in 2016. Obviously, more and more ASP flooding is being carried out. Another large ASP flooding field test in high temperature (80°C) in Henan oilfield has got staged incremental oil recovery of 7.7%. Latest theory and application in ASP flooding in China are reviewed to help ASP flooding go from success to more application. Weak alkali is better than strong alkali ASP flooding. Relation between viscosity and IFT is discussed. This paper also explains why weak alkali ASP flooding is promoted in Daqing after 12 field tests on strong alkali one. ASP flooding can be a great help to survive low oil price.

In this research, economic evaluation of the efficiency of the ASP chemical flooding method applied on the oil-producing Jaribeh formation of DERO oil field was performed. The theoretical study firstly included complete explanation of objectives and justifications of the research, reference study related to the economic aspects of applying the mentioned method, overview of DERO oil field (lithostratigraphic, petrophysical, and depositional properties as well as reservoir indexes of Jaribeh reservoir in the mentioned oil field).The economic study however, included the following axes: Determination of sequence of chemical solutions and liquids proposed to be injected in the pilot area chosen for studying, determination of volumes of chemical solutions and liquids proposed to be injected in the pilot area, determination of the ideal batch of the ASP solution proposed to be injected in the pilot area, proposed scheme of the injection process, choosing a pilot in DERO field and determining its main reservoir characteristics, calculating volumes of chemical solution and liquids injected in the pilot area, calculating oil quantities expected to be produced from the pilot area as a result of applying the ASP flooding method, and calculating cost of chemical materials needed for the ASP flooding process in the pilot. As a result of this study, the additional quantity of oil produced by applying the ASP flooding method in the pilot was determined as well as the additional cost of an oil barrel resulted from using chemical materials in the mentioned flooding process that is (1.93 $/bbl).

This is a review article on the subject of combining tertiary oil recovery methods like alkaline, surfactant and polymer flooding in order to achieve the synergetic effect out of the different impacts which are caused by these chemicals, affect oil and water filtration in the reservoir and increase oil recovery. In the article the main theoretical concepts of EOR (enhanced oil recovery) are summarized, mechanism of alkaline, surfactant and polymer flooding technologies are explained referring to the research works which had strong contribution to the development of the tertiary oil recovery methods. Formulation of alkaline/surfactant/polymer (ASP) chemical formula for EOR is discussed as well. Importance of numerical simulation and core flood laboratory experiments for the successful implementation of ASP technologies explained in the paper. Finally several examples of ASP flooding applications throughout the world projects are presented.
