“…Third, mixtures of G. soja and G. max showed that the 250 bp band was synthesized, when mixed at a 1:1 mass ratio suggesting that competition between templates was not a factor. Since, the 250 bp polymorphic band was not synthesized, if G. soja constituted less than 17~o of the mixture (data not shown) and G. soja was used as the male parent, it is likely that the 250 bp AFLP originated from G. soja organelle DNA which constitutes 10 to 20~o of total cellular DNA [12]. Since soybean organelles are presumed to be inherited maternally, the AFLP did not appear in F1 or F2 progeny.…”
