When investigating the general state of radiography, an allied health care education in Sweden, one possible starting point is to conduct a review of Bachelor theses from radiography education programmes. The nature and function of the thesis can have an academic or professional perspective or a combination of both. The review of the theses can give insight into both the current state and the future of radiography. The aim of this study was to explore the contemporary theoretical, topical and methodological trends in Bachelor theses in the field of radiography. An explorative design with a qualitative approach using content analysis was employed to determine the addressed theoretical framework, topics, research questions, and designs and methods used in Bachelor theses in radiography. The theoretical framework gave the impression of a discipline with a great deal of imported knowledge, showing a theoretical pluralism. The analysis of research questions yielded four topics: evidence based care, evidence behind imaging, work environment and additional minor trends. The research designs used, involve literature review of other research and interviews. The students use qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods, whereas quality content analysis holds an exceptional position for analysis. Academically oriented theses should focus on knowledge of the subject, and it can therefore be claimed that the analysis of Bachelor theses provides a window into the state of radiography and can thereby have an impact on the development of radiography as a discipline.

“…Across Europe there a wide diversity of methodological approaches taken to concepts of evidence to inform practice, as expounded by Isaac Nevo and Vered Slonim-Nevo (2011) in their paper from Israel. This is explained in part by the heterogeneous intellectual traditions in different national contexts, partly by different cultures of social work and social sciences, and partly by the different location of social work (and thus social work research and education) within these traditions and cultures (Dellgran & Höjer, 2012). The annual conferences have informed the emerging Association regarding the breadth of research paradigms to be encompassed, whether in appraising needs at an individual or societal level; or understanding people's perceptions of their problems or of providing services; or studying the effectiveness of services; or the dissemination and use of research in practice and policy.…”

Presents a trend of doctoral research activities undertaken in social sciences across the institutes of higher learning in India. The study is based on the secondary data compiled from the bibliography of doctoral dissertations, published on an annual basis by the Association of Indian Universities in India, in the field of social sciences during 2010-2014. The study revealed that in all, 5788 doctoral degrees were awarded across 171 institutes of Higher Learning in India in as many as 17 different social science subject disciplines, with an average of 340.47 doctoral degrees in each subject field. On an average, each individual, institution has awarded 33.84 doctoral degrees. Education, commerce and economics are the three leading subject disciplines, in which maximum doctoral degrees were awarded, while as Tourism stands at the bottom. Similarly, at the state level, the maximum doctoral degrees were awarded from Gujarat, which is followed by Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, while as at institutional level; Dr B.R. Amedkar Marathwada University, Jawaharlal University and Maharishi Dayanand University are the three leading institutes across the country, which awarded the maximum number of doctoral degrees.
