The pollen extract Femal—a nonestrogenic alternative to hormone therapy in women with menopausal symptoms

Abstract: The results show that the pollen extract in Femal does not give the preparation any estrogenic effect. Thus, Femal, which has proven clinical efficacy, is a nonestrogenic alternative to hormone therapy in women with menopausal symptoms.

“…The results show the higher amount of this isoflavone in the extracts of PanserinaUniSa and PanserinaUniVie as well as in the commercial product 2, thus confirming the similarities between these three samples already deduced from PCA analysis. Since genistein is considered as an active compound in estrogenic therapy (Ferrante et al 2004; Hellstrom and Muntzing 2012), our results highlight that genistein intake may change depending on the origin of different commercial products, thereby having different effects on the treatment of PMS.
Fig. 5Relative quantitative analysis of genistein in the commercial products (# 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and in the hydroaloholic extracts PanserinaUnisa and UniVie.

“…Compared with ethinyl estradiol, PureCyTonin V R did not show any uterotrophic effect in immature female rats when the uterotrophic screening assay was applied in juvenile Wistar rats [16]. No estrogenic effect was demonstrated in a reporter gene assay using human embryonic kidney 293T cells that were co-transfected with estrogen receptors ER alpha and ER beta and a luciferase reporter plasmid containing ER response elements.…”

“…Hellström and Muntzing [ 9 ] published a study in which they used chromatography to determine the composition of PI 82-GC FEM with respect to presence of phytoestrogenic substances. Additionally, the oestrogenic effect of these extracts was assessed by an uterotrophic assay in an animal model.…”
