“…Values concepts and applications structure how we interpret conflict as well as how we perceive ourselves as political subjects, such as citizens or consumers. Ioris (2012) and Williams Ecology and Society 22(1): 7 http://www.ecologyandsociety.org/vol22/iss1/art7/ (2014) propose that valuation exercises are always "positioned" in that they reflect partial perspectives on an issue and always reflect some social groups' interests more than others. The political ecology of water is located at the intersection between the structural problems of development and of state regulation with interpersonal relations at different scales [15,23]. Instead of only being evident in situations of organised protest, the politics of water is also manifested in material and symbolic terms, in the daily life of the people and in the subtle forms of marginalisation and ecological degradation [24,25].…”

“…The first conceptualisation of water abundance as a source of rich water values is straightforward (see [23,68,69] for an overview of the concept of 'water values') and was expressed in most interviews, for example among members of the agribusiness or tourism sectors:…”

“…Whereas in psychology values are studied at both the individual and collective levels, including the relationship between them (Schwartz 2010), other disciplines including geography (Ioris 2012) and anthropology (Strang 2005) contribute with respect to collective values. For example, cultural values within anthropology refer to the values that are shared among a group of people and may differentiate one group from another (Robbins 2012).…”
