I explore the Marxian thesis, according to which ‘the ruling ideas of each age have ever been the ideas of its ruling class’. I argue that the dominance of analytic philosophy within contemporary philosophy exemplifies this Marxian verdict. I discuss several cases from analytic philosophy to support this claim. Then I discuss two strategies to overcome the power-based dominance of analytic philosophy within academia. First, I argue for representational pluralism, according to which different philosophical traditions should be more equally represented in philosophy departments. Second, I make the abolitionist case against peer review and journal editing, because I identify them as intrinsically corruptible and untransparent power mechanisms, that allow the dominant ideology of the day to sustain its hegemony under the guise of epistemic and scientific legitimacy.
