“…The unreported record from São Lourenço do Sul extends the distribution area of the species about 295 km from its The important role of specimens deposited in biological collections has been long debated through many different aspects of its importance (e.g., Patterson 2002;Vivo et al 2014;Brandão 2015;Ceríaco et al 2016). The reticular formation is responsible for the regulation of alertness and subsidizes the attentional process and the amygdala is specifically related to emotions [ 22 ].…”

“…Vaz Ferreira (1960 highlighted differences between the type material and one specimen from Uruguay, and Pine (1980: 198) expanded these comparisons and concluded "further study may show that the Brazilian and Uruguayan populations are worthy of subspecific designation. " Our knowledge about the alpha taxonomy of Wilfredomys is poor (Machado et al, 2015), and specimens available for study are so scarce and fragmentary (Brandão, 2015) that non-geographic variation is difficult to assess (González et al, 2015: 106). However, taking into account that W. oenax comes from the hilly surroundings of SLS, despite its geographic proximity to Uruguayan localities, environmental differences could be associated with the reported variability.…”
