“…rs199598395 has been previously shown to be Finnish enriched and associated with iron deficiency anemia 22 and to have an effect on blood donation eligibility 23 . Negative association in blood donorship was also seen with rs1135071 in chromosome 11, in a known Finnish enriched Hb variant, Hb Tacoma 24 , in HBB gene. Linear regression analysis of blood service operational finger-prick Hb measurements showed a decreasing effect of rs199598395, rs1135071 and rs3130906 to hemoglobin level -2.99 g/L (p = 6.43 x 10 - 30 , 95% Cl [-3.49, -2.5]), -6.46 g/L (p = 6.66 x 10 - 28 , 95% Cl [-7.57, -5.35]) and -0.22 g/L (p = 0.002, 95% Cl [-0.32, -0.11]) respectively, and moderate increasing effect of rs9968910 and rs687621, 0.52 g/L (p = 4.03 x 10 - 22 , 95% Cl [0.42-0.62]) and to 0.25 g/L (p = 1.72 x 10 -05 , 95% Cl [0.15-0.35]), respectively (Supplementary file 2).…”
