The Prevention Delivery System: Organizational Context and Use of Comprehensive Programming Frameworks

Abstract: The purpose of this exploratory study is to investigate organizational-level mechanisms in the Prevention Delivery System (PDS) and their influence on implementing comprehensive programming frameworks (e.g., Communities that Care-CtC) as the innovation. The PDS is part of the Interactive Systems Framework for Dissemination and Implementation (ISF) and describes key characteristics of innovation implementation and dissemination. The study addresses two research questions: (1) What types of organizational charac… Show more

“…When such a Prevention Support System is present and well connected to the other stakeholders it can create a strong partnership among policy makers/funders, researchers, and practitioners, increasing the capacity of each and addressing the key barriers to improved children's mental health (Livet et al 2008;Wilkinson et al 2009). …”

“…A number of conceptual models, frameworks and theories have been developed in the implementation science literature to guide successful EBP implementation Meyers, Joseph, & Wandersman, 2012). For example: Diffusion of Innovation theory focuses on the influences of opinions of potential adopters about a new innovation ; the PROmoting School-community-university Partnerships to Enhance Resilience (PROSPER) model ) takes a partnership support approach to implementation; Aarons and colleagues' Exploration, Adoption/Preparation, Implementation and Sustainment model emphasize "inner" and "outer" organization context factors ; and the Interactive Systems Framework (Wandersman et al, 2008) focuses on building local capacity for implementation and the multiple ecological factors that interact to impact this. In general, these frameworks propose that providers are more likely to adopt, implement and sustain a new program if a number of essential provider, program and setting elements (internal organization functioning and external variables) exist.…”
