The primary patency of drug-eluting balloon versus conventional balloon angioplasty in hemodialysis patients with arteriovenous fistula stenoses

Abstract: Drug-eluting balloon angioplasty proved to be an effective treatment of hemodialysis AVFs stenosis, with a high primary patency rate at 12 months.

“…In our study, the 12-month patency in the DBA group was very similar to that reported by Haave et al ( 26 ), whereas the control arm patency was much higher. In contrast, in another two-cohort study with 26 patients in each of the DBA and PTA groups, Çildağ et al ( 22 ) found no significant difference in the 6-month primary patency rate (77% vs. 65%, respectively, p = 0.45), whereas there was a significant difference in the 12-month primary patency rate (65% vs. 35%, respectively, p < 0.05).
