The Production of Industrial-Grade Oxygen from Air by Pressure Swing Adsorption

Abstract: Oxygen, an odorless and colorless gas constituent of the atmosphere, is a vital gas component for the Earth, as it makes up 21% of the composition of the air we breathe. Apart from the importance of oxygen for human breathing, its highly pure form is demanding for industrial applications. As such, several technologies have been established to increase the oxygen purity from 21% to somewhat higher than 95%. One of the competitive technologies for producing this high-purity oxygen from the air is through pressur… Show more

“…[16] A portable oxygen concentrator with continuous and pulse-ow oxygen was used for analysis. The volumeaveraged FIO2 recorded at the trachea was also examined. [17] This work proposes quantifying the e ciency and purity of pressure swing adsorption in producing oxygen vs alternative approaches. [18] A study was conducted on an intelligent system that automatically adjusts oxygen delivery based on patient needs and respiratory conditions.…”

“…At present, oxygen production is divided into physical and chemical methods, but chemical methods have certain safety hazards. Therefore, the development of oxygen technology tends to be more towards physical methods, of which the most commonly used is air separation technology [5]. At home and abroad, a variety of air separation oxygen production processes have been developed, such as low-temperature deep-cooling oxygen production, membrane separation oxygen production, pressure swing absorption oxygen production, and coupled air separation oxygen production.…”
