The prognostic role of preoperative serum CA125 levels in patients with advanced endometrial carcinoma

Abstract: In endometrial carcinoma, due to the relationship of CA125 with numerous prognostic factors, it is recommended that CA125 measurement be included in preoperative evaluation. In case of high CA125 levels, complete surgical staging including lymphadenectomy and omentectomy should be considered.

“…Based on the study of Modarres-Gilani et al from Iran on 91 cases with endometrial cancer in 2017, in line with our results, high preoperative CA125 was significantly correlated with advanced stage (cut-off value: 20 u/mL) (18). Also, they found a significant correlation between depth of myometrial invasion and CA125 level, but our study did not demonstrate this association.…”

“…To compare the diagnostic value of the studied AFs with biomarkers that are in clinical use, we compared the ROC curves for sTie-2, G-CSF, and leptin with those for CA-125 and HE4. CA-125 and HE4 have been extensively studied in ovarian and EC, and their diagnostic and prognostic values in gynecological cancers have been reported [16,[55][56][57]. This comparison revealed that sTie-2, G-CSF, and leptin have similar AUC values as CA-125 and HE4 for the separation of EC and control patients.…”

“…The identi cation and use of biomarkers for EC is an active area of research [12][13][14][15]. Serum level of CA125 has been described as an effective tumor biomarker for EC patients [17][18][19][20]. However, its use in the pre-operative assessment of EC patients remains controversial and has not been studied in depth [21].…”
