The Prophylactic Orthodontic Treatment with Removable Appliances in Children

Abstract: Childhood and adolescence include periods of growth in which the pediatrician meets multiple challenges in terms of cooperation, compliance with treatment, and the patients family, thus constituting the pedodontic triangle. The importance of long-term patient monitoring should not be neglected, especially for those in the stage of growth and development of temporary or permanent dentition, when a real cascade of bad events can be triggered. “…The present study evaluated the incorporation of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide nanoparticles supported on the 4A zeolite to cold-curing PMMA and investigated the antibacterial and mechanical properties following characterization. Orthodontic treatments with the diagnosis and treatment of maxillofacial abnormalities play an essential role in creating the esthetic, function, and morphology of the craniofacial area in children and adults [ 19 , 20 ]. Removable orthodontic appliances are widely used to treat dental and skeletal problems in the ages of 6 to 12 years, which coincides with the mixed dental ages.…”

“…We have not included within the study children with orthodontic treatment because both the removable appliances ( made of thermoplastic and thermo set resins) as well as fixed appliance and auxiliary elements (hyrax, distaliser, myofunctional trainer) favorizes additional retention of bacterial plaque. Also, the component elements of orthodontic appliances on the vestibular surface of the teeth make it impossible to determine the OHI-S Index [21][22][23].…”

“…Of utmost importance are the quality of the polymerization process and the shrinkage of the outlet, two issues that are currently unresolved in the treatment of odontal lesions with DCR [18][19][20][21][22][23]. The objective of the research is to evaluate the marginal microinfiltrations in composite resin restorations, depending on different restorative techniques at the level of the class II cavities.…”
