The Protective of Baicalin on Myocardial Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury

Abstract: Background: The aim of this study was to explore the inhibitory effect of baicalin on myocardial apoptosis induced by ischemia-reperfusion (I/R). Methods: Sprague Dawley rats heart and myocardial cells I/R model were established in vivo and vitro, then 100 mg/kg and 10 μmol/l baicalin was administrated, respectively. The experiment was randomly divided into 4 groups (n=10): Control; I/R; IR+DMEM; and I/R+baicalin groups. Post-operation, the left ventricular (LV) end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP), the maximum … Show more

“…Baicalin is a flavonoid derivative isolated from the traditional Chinese medicine Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, with significant pharmacological activities, including anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and antioxidant effects [ 173 , 174 ]. Baicalin improves cardiac function and myocardial fibrosis in rats with myocardial infarction, possibly through the p38 phosphorylation and TGFβ1/Smad2 pathway, exhibiting a protective effect against MI/R injury [ 175 ].…”

“…Luan et al demonstrated that by regulating the Akt/NF-κB signaling pathway, baicalin downregulated myocardial apoptosis and inflammation ( 62 ). Liu et al reported that LV functions were improved and myocardial apoptosis was suppressed by baicalin via suppressing the CaSR/ERK1/2 signaling pathway in myocardial I/R injury rats ( 63 ). Xu et al reported the protective effect of baicalin, via the JAK/STAT pathway, on myocardial I/R injury.…”

“…Baicalin, a monomeric flavonoid compound, is the main medicinal component of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, which has highlighted extensive pharmacological properties such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, hypertension, ischemic heart disease, and atherosclerosis in numerous studies ( Li Y. et al, 2020 ; Liu X. et al, 2020 ; Xin et al, 2020 ; Singh et al, 2021 ). In addition, a large body of publications have reported that baicalin possessed a protective effect on hypoxia-induced PAH, which was mediated by increasing the expression of ADAMTS-1 ( Liu et al, 2015 ), targeting the Akt/HIF1α/p27-associated pathway ( Zhang L. et al, 2014 ), enhancing A 2A R activity, downregulating SDF-1/CXCR4-induced PI3K/Akt signaling ( Huang et al, 2017 ), and suppressing the HIF1α and AhR pathways ( Huang et al, 2014 ).…”
