Abstract:Adrenarche is a developmental phase that occurs only in humans and chimpanzees. It is characterized by the maturation of the adrenal zona reticularis, culminating in the synthesis and secretion of enormous amounts of dehydroepiandro-sterone sulfate (DHEAS) into the blood stream.
