The QCD Running Coupling

A. Deur,
S. J. Brodsky,
G. F. de Teramond

Abstract: We review the present theoretical and empirical knowledge for α s , the fundamental coupling underlying the interactions of quarks and gluons in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). The dependence of α s (Q 2 ) on momentum transfer Q encodes the underlying dynamics of hadron physics -from color confinement in the infrared domain to asymptotic freedom at short distances. We review constraints on α s (Q 2 ) at high Q 2 , as predicted by perturbative QCD, and its analytic behavior at small Q 2 , based on models of nonpe… Show more

“…[12][13][14]. Determinations of the coupling from such sum rules, i.e., at low momenta ∼ m τ , allow us to see the reliability of the theory because we can compare the extracted value of α s with the known determinations at high energies through renormalisation group equation (RGE) evolution (see for instance [15][16][17]).…”

“…Remarkably, Brodsky and de Téramond discovered that the LFSWE in the chiral limit (m q = m q = 0) can be identified with the equation of motion of strings in the fifth dimension of Anti-de Sitter (AdS 5 ) space thus establishing an extraordinary connection between light-front QCD and AdS/QCD, a bottom-up approach known as light-front holography (LFH, [2]). LFH has been successfully applied to describing the hadron spectroscopy, including the spectra of mesons [2][3][4][5][6], the infrared behavior of the strong coupling [7], hadron form factors [2,[8][9][10] and parton distributions [11,12]. An excellent review of this approach is Ref.…”
