The Quantitative Unconscious: A Psychoanalytic Perturbation-Theoretic Approach to the Complexity of Neuronal Systems in the Neuroses

Abstract: To approach the complexity of dynamic neural informational exchange across active brain anatomy as revealed by modern quantitative technology such as MEG, PET, and fMRI, a framework which will define that data is required. Psychoanalysis provides that frame of reference, where the "astronomical" complexity of neuronal systems can be assessed and understood while performing their cognitive functions in a known metapsychological context. As physicists simplify highly complex stellar phenomenon and their effects … Show more

“…[Think of quantitative energetic cathexis in terms of Freud's economic/quantitative factor [9] (1914-1916)]. The precise role of each typological participant in the formative unconscious transference must be quantitatively articulated if psychology is ever to claim its rightful place as hard science and place a real etiologically sound basis under this pluralistic discipline [22], and in addition, a clear relation must be established to phylogenetic epigenetics [25]- [28]. However, this simple starting point, will soon prove itself a useful gateway.…”

“…Next please recall that all the world is given its quality and definition by way of symbolism [21] [22]. Remember also, that symbolism is the mind's intra-systemic means of communication, i.e., the unconscious becomes available to consciousness once symbolized in dreams [9] (1900).…”
