The ratio between digestible protein and digestible energy affects accumulation and depuration of geosmin and 2‐methylisoborneol (2‐MIB) in Japanese seabass ( Lateolabrax japonicus ) raised in a recirculated aquaculture system

Abstract: Geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol (2-MIB) are the most widespread sources of muddy flavours in freshwater. Both are secondary metabolites produced by microorganisms (Jiang et al., 2007). The employment of quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) analysis allows the identification and quantification of the geoA and 2-MIB synthase genes, which encode for geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol

“…The lipid content can be recorded on live fish from thousands of individuals which has helped to study family-differences in lipid content and to implement selection based on the lipid content in aquaculture breeding programs (Janhunen et al, 2017). Therefore, it is important to study the expected impact of lipids and fatty acids on off-flavor compounds, but so far there is limited knowledge on family differences, or correlations between the fatty acid composition and off-flavor accumulation (Lu et al, 2022).…”

“…60–70 ng/L in Chengbei Reservoir, China, were reduced to 3.8 ng/L after treatment [ 17 ]. GC-MS was also employed to quantify contaminants in a recirculated aquaculture system to raise Japanese seabass in the presence of actinobacteria and cyanobacteria [ 18 ]. In this simulated environment, Lu et al [ 18 ] demonstrated GEO and MIB levels of 169 ng/L and 45 ng/L, respectively.…”
