The Reconstruction of the Dynamic of a Murder Using 3D Motion Capture and 3D Model Buildings: The Investigation of a Dubious Forensic Case

Abstract: Photographic surveying is fundamental to crime scene investigation. It is performed using 2D images; however, this method is limited because it does not offer a detailed view. We present a 3D (three‐dimensional) experimental model that has clarified unsolved aspects of a homicide. A woman was found dead in her home. Considering the large number of injuries on the victim, signs of the use of two weapons, and the absence of traces of the killer/s, several hypotheses about the dynamics and the number of offenders… Show more

“…According to the time sequence of the point cloud image, the point cloud is divided into active and inactive parts. e points reconstructed earlier are inactive points, but these points belong to more accurate points after optimization [19,20]. e newly reconstructed points are active points and also belong to the points to be optimized.…”

“…In the actual convolution neural network, the above parameters are calculated, and the full connection layer is trained. Setting appropriate ratio parameters can reduce the coadaptation of neurons in the convolution neural network and ensure the training effect while preventing overfitting [19,20].…”

“…It was initially denied in lieu of the multiplicity of injuries, and bloodstain pattern suggestive of the perpetration by more than one assailant. 6 Another CSR done with seven laser scans, 23 structured light scans, high-resolution photography, 3-D modelling of blood spatter trajectories and Meshlab technique (for simulation of injuries), along with the application of virtual reality software, helped to solve the murder case of a 30-year-old woman in her apartment. 7 The role of 3-D modelling in solving violent crimes committed indoors was highlighted in a case of a murdered male whose dead body lay in a small room with objects scattered all around.…”

“…Digital models of objects related to the crime, obtained through the use of 3D technology, are also used in court proceedings (Aquila et al, 2019), including those with the participation of juries. The following case vividly demonstrates the possibilities in question.…”
