The Reduction of Silver Ions by Hydroquinone

Abstract: From the acetylation of 134 g. (1.25 moles) of o-toluidine in benzene by acetic anhydride there was obtained 135 g. of the acet-o-toluidide melting a t 108'. Bromination in about 50-g. lots, by the procedure of Bogert and Hand,I4 gave an 80% yield of the bromo-acet-o-toluidide. This was nitrated by fuming nitric acid.16 The acetyl group was removed by hydrolyzing 25-g. lots of the nitrated product with 30 cc. of concd. hydrochloric acid in 120 cc. of ethyl alcohol, and the yield was 52 g. of bromo-amine meltin… Show more

“…As sodium selenite (NazSeO3) was found to have a rather toxic effect on the injected brain tissue (2,3,6), sodium selenide (Na2Se) was suggested as a tracer substance for local application (2). It was (4.6-8,12, 14,22).…”

“…As higher the initial AgNO 3 concentration is, Reaction 2 (shell thickness increase) goes faster as it is already known [34]. Nevertheless, Reaction 3 is more favored than Reaction 2 by the AgNO 3 concentration increase and, consequently, more AgNPs are formed instead of the silver shell growth.…”

“…The substrate modified with gold nanoseeds was then immersed in the Ag + solution with hydroquinone at low pH. Ag nanoflowers (NFs) grew quickly on the seeds by the seed‐assisted autocatalytic reaction, which can be tuned to create a huge variety of nanoparticle morphologies . The Ag NFs assembled into a well‐distributed Ag film.…”
