“…A robust finding of the literature on intergenerational economic mobility in Mexico is that the country presents a large degree of intergenerational persistence irrespective of the economic outcome measured (Vélez-Grajales and Monroy-Gómez-Franco, 2017;Campos-Vázquez, Delgado-Barrera and Vélez-Grajales, 2020). Similarly, recent work has found heterogeneity at the regional (Monroy-Gómez-Franco and Corak, 2019;Delajara, Campos-Vazquez and Velez-Grajales, 2022) and skin color (Campos-Vázquez and Medina-Cortina, 2019; dimensions. However, it has not analyzed the patterns of social mobility experienced by the indigenous population, which, based on the literature mentioned in the previous paragraph, can be expected to be different from those of the general population.…”

“…Pooling together both surveys allows obtaining a large sample size to study the differences in the patterns of intergenerational economic mobility between Mexico's indigenous and non-indigenous populations. It is worth mentioning that Delajara, Campos-Vazquez and Velez-Grajales (2022) previously used this pooled sample to estimate intergenerational social mobility patterns at the state level.…”

“…A significant determinant of this structural pattern is the heightened role of private resources of origin determining the economic trajectory of a person, which arises from the low effectiveness of public systems to support the socioeconomic achievement of the majority of the Mexican population. Moreover, Mexico is a country with significant spatial disparities, where there is a substantial degree of regional heterogeneity in terms of both social mobility and inequality of opportunity ( Delajara et al, 2021 , Neidhöfer et al, 2021 ). Thus, it is likely that the displacement to distance learning increased these inequalities and compounds these already significant regional differences.…”
