“…This opinion has been confirmed by Lederer and Ferrin 218; the endometrium biopsies of sideropenic women did not reveal any intrinsic pathological aspect. 6 Since Waldenström,373 hyposiderosis without anemia has been described; it has also been erroneously named "anemia with¬ out anemia." It is generally found in women of between 30 and 40 years, with a Plummer-Vinson syndrome and other signs of tissular sideropenia.…”

“…In a series of 200 patients with no gastric symptoms, a steady rise in acidity with red cell count up to seven millions was observed [16], In another series of patients studied for the relationship between red cell counts and the highest titratable gastric acid, no relationship was disclosed [7], Some authors suggested [2] that with increas ing polycythemia, gastric acidity was falling. Experimental observations on polycythemia in dogs [2] demonstrated that with increasing hematocrit volumes above approximately 50%, gastric acidity was falling. A more recent study on the effect of polycythemia on gastric secretion in dogs [3] showed that during polycythemia the quantitative daily output of acid either decreased or remained near control levels.…”
