It is widely recognized that poultry farming productivity is not only influenced by technology/inputs enhancements but also by the efficiency with which available technologies/inputs are used. Technical inefficiency has also been attributed to farmer’s inability to correctly use farm inputs as prescribed, poor management practices etc. all of which are affected by the farmers’ level of knowledge. This study broadly assessed the effect of educational level of poultry egg farmers on their technical efficiency. A 4-stage sampling procedure was used to select 180 respondents. Structured questionnaire was administered to obtain data; descriptive analysis was used to assess educational level, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to estimate technical efficiency, robust Ordinary Least Square regression to determine the effect of educational level on the farmers’ technical efficiency. This study found that 65.5% of the respondents had tertiary education, 15.6% had secondary education, 5% had primary education and 13.9% had no formal education. The mean efficiency of the respondents is 0.426, implying that they are more technically inefficient (57.4%) than they are technically efficient (42.6%). Secondary and tertiary education were found to have positive significant effects on the technical efficiency of the respondents at 1%. That is, farmers’ technical efficiency does not stop increasing at tertiary level of education as further search for knowledge facilitates higher efficiency. Therefore, it is recommended that poultry farmers should frequently undergo adequate and relevant education, workshop and training; adopt input minimisation and output maximisation management practices. Manual/literature accompanying drugs, vaccines and other poultry inputs should be clearly explained.

Since several decades, agricultural movements have been supporting the majority of villages in Indonesia. Agricultural reform is a new program organized by the government that started in 2019. In this context, the objectivity of the paper is to examine causality between technology adoption (TA), capital subsidies (CS), educational skills (ES), and health and scholarships (H&S) on farmers' prosperity (FP). Using a time–series regression simulation, the investigation is focused on agricultural reform in the era of President Jokowi, to be precise in the 2nd period (2019–2023). In Indonesia, there are simultaneous parallel effects of technology adoption, capital subsidies, educational skills, and health and scholarships on the farmers' prosperity. When testing partially, the result is that technology adoption as well as health and scholarships have a positive effect on the farmers' prosperity. Yet, capital subsidies and educational skills actually have a negative effect on the farmers' prosperity. Explicitly, the consistency of agricultural reform is expected to be accessible to all farmers.

Sustainable development can only be achieved when jointly considering social, economic, and environmental dimensions. Social capital and local wisdom offer important contributions to the development process and the capabilities of individuals and groups as development actors. This study analyzes the role of social capital and local wisdom in managing business partnerships between farmers and palm oil plantation companies in North Konawe, Indonesia. This research was conducted in a palm oil plantation area by involving landowner farmers, palm oil companies, and other stakeholders such as the local government, NGOs, and academics. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and focus group discussions (FGDs), totaling 320 respondents, and analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. The selection of informants for the in-depth interviews was determined by considering their involvement in and understanding of the partnership between farmers and companies in oil palm plantations; field observations were carried out to determine the field conditions of these plantations, while FGDs were held to obtain stakeholder information regarding problems and solutions in implementing farmer and company partnerships with the aim of having a positive impact on economic, social, and environmental welfare. The results underscore the importance of social capital and local wisdom in organizing institutional programs for strengthening palm oil business partnerships. Trust, social networks, and participation negatively affected the sustainability of these partnerships, whilst local wisdom and social solidarity positively influenced institutional strengthening. Company inconsistency and lack of openness can lead to a trust crisis that can threaten the sustainable operations of palm oil companies, while building good cooperative commitment and maintaining collaboration play key roles in enhancing community welfare and increasing company profits. The social capital and local wisdom of farmer institutions in villages are expected to significantly contribute to the establishment of sustainable palm oil business partnerships.
