The relationship between insulin sensitivity and maximal oxygen uptake is confounded by method of adjustment for body composition

Abstract: Background: The use of ratios for analyzing physiologic variables often creates spurious associations. Methods: Results of a euglycaemic clamp, a graded exercise test to measure maximal oxygen uptake (VO 2 max) and underwater weighing in 358 nondiabetic adults (166 women and 192 men) were used to compare the effects of weight standardization by division or by partial Spearman correlations on the association between VO 2 max and insulin sensitivity. Results: VO 2 max and insulin sensitivity were negatively corr… Show more

“…AET induces changes in the expression of several genes, by altering epigenetic patterns of DNA methylation and histone acetylation, modulating signal transduction pathways and metabolic pathways, and especially promoting a more efficient stimulation of the PI3K pathway 24 and also insulin-independent pathways, such as interleukins (ILs) pathway 25 . PGC-1α/FNDC5/Irisin pathway is only activated by skeletal muscle during physical exercise and has been positively correlated with biceps circumference and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) levels in humans 26 and growth-related genes in mice 27 .…”

“…In healthy individuals, PE stimulates a better functioning of the PI3K pathway [ 123 , 216 ] through both insulin-dependent and -independent pathways [ 217 , 218 ]. PE also activates the β-oxidative pathway to degrade fat in order to produce energy [ 219 ].…”

“…Pengukuran dilakukan untuk menjadi penilaian dari unjuk kerja yang penting untuk dalam satu program latihan. Pengukuran kondisi fisik sangat perlu dilakukan, termasuk mengukur daya tahan VO2max untuk menentukan pembinaan selanjutnya (Gifford et al, 2017;Grice et al, 2013;Lundby et al, 2017).…”
