The relationship between polycystic ovary syndrome and infertility: a bibliometric analysis

Abstract: Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is common and often causes infertility in women of childbearing age. This study adopted the method of bibliometrics to analyze the current research status of research on PCOS and infertility. Method:We conducted a literature search based on the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E) database. All records of search results were exported and the records were cited r in plain text format to generate source files for analysis. CiteSpace software was then used to analyze… Show more

“…PCOS is a prevalent metabolic and endocrine condition affecting women of reproductive age. It is a significant factor and the main reason for infertility among women of reproductive age ( 13 16 ). The prevalence of this heterogeneous familial disorder varies based on the population studied, but it generally ranges from 8% to 13% in adult women and around 6% in adolescent girls ( 17 ).…”

“…Irregular menses, subfertility, insulin resistance, obesity, cardiovascular disease, anxiety, depression, and altogether poor quality of life are the main comorbidities and consequences of PCOS ( 17 , 18 , 22 ). According to guidelines, the exact treatment for PCOS’s underlying cause is not yet an available option, but symptoms therapy and preventing long-term morbidity associated with PCOS are prevalent treatments these days that can be achieved by 5-10% weight loss and/or a combination of oral contraceptives and ovulation stimulating drugs (such as letrozole, clomiphene, and metformin) for women who have not resumed ovulation ( Figure 2 ) ( 16 , 18 , 23 ). International evidence-based PCOS recommendations that stress PCOS prevention, screening, and therapy across the reproductive lifespan were created as a result of the identification of pertinent difficulties in the treatment of adolescents and women with PCOS.…”

“…Moreover, it can guide funding decisions and experimental strategies by providing effective evidence (11). Over the years, fruits of bibliometric research have blossomed from a variety of fields, such as in gouty arthritis (12), traditional Chinese medicine in the field of ischemia-reperfusion injury (13), prenatal stress (14), artemisinin (11), polycystic ovary syndrome (15), the culinary heritage significance of Filipino kakanin (16), metformin (17), evidence-based nursing guidelines for preventing inpatient falls (18), and chimeric antigen receptor-based cell therapy (19). However, no bibliometric analyses of ONFH have been conducted.…”

“…Bibliometric analysis is based on mathematical and statistical methods to analyze all articles published on a research topic over a period of time, providing an overview of research categories or topics, co-authorship, keyword frequency and the most cited articles or journals, which is exactly what is needed to reveal the frontiers and hotspots of research into metabolic dysfunction in PCOS ( 12 , 13 ). Previous articles have been published on different aspects related to PCOS, which are coronary heart disease, insulin resistance and infertility ( 14 16 ). This is the first bibliometric analysis of PCOS metabolic dysfunction in the last ten years (2012–2021) to investigate the current status of research in this field.…”
