Tree crown is one of the main components that must be monitored to assess the health condition of the forest. The crown condition is described by five ecological parameters namely : live crown ratio, foliage transparency, crown density, crown diameter, and the dieback. The method used to assess the canopy condition was the Forest Health Monitoring (FHM) method and remote sensing with the Normalize Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) transformation.. This study was conducted with the aim of being able to determine the condition of tree crown in protected forests using the FHM and remote sensing methods so that a comparison of the assessment results of the two methods can be carried out. This research was carried out at HKm Beringin Jaya, a managed area of KTH Lestari Jaya 8 which is located in Sumberejo District, Tanggamus Regency. The results of this study are that the Visual Crown Ratio value obtained ranges from 2.50 - 3.25. NDVI value describing the condition of the tree crown ranges from 0.75-0.83. The conclusion obtained from this study is that with the FHM technique, the health condition of the tree crown obtained is moderate to good, while with remote sensing techniques, the condition of the tree crown is in a very good condition.

Wild grazing is the main problem faced by Baluran National Park (BNP) management. Sidomulyo Hamlet contributed to wild grazing by the cattle number of 2,220 heads. The research aims to assess the community readiness for the intensification program to reduce wild grazing in BNP and formulate alternative strategies to program successfully. The study was conducted in Sidomulyo Hamlet, Sumberwaru Village, Situbondo Regency, from June to October 2021. The location was chosen purposively, considering that it is one of the hamlets directly adjacent to the BNP. The method used a qualitative approach using Community Readiness Model by interviewing 12 key informants, consisting of the representative of BNP management, local government, and local farmers. Data were collected through interviews using a semi-structured questionnaire under Community Readiness Model Handbook. Data were analyzed using Community Readiness Assessment. The results showed that the community readiness score related to the livestock intensification program was 4.43. The level of beef cattle community readiness at the preplanning stage, the program is still in the initial planning stage, aiming to increase awareness of the farmer community with ideas that can reduce the problem. Alternative strategies that should be carried out are: introducing information about the problem, communicating with community leaders, reviewing the efforts made to determine targets and success rates, conducting focus group discussions to discuss the problem and develop strategies, and increasing media exposure. Community forests are forests that are owned, built and managed by the people. Community forests can provide direct and indirect benefits. So that the health of community forests has various cropping patterns that can be assessed from the parameters of forest health, namely vitality. One of the plants that is in great demand in the timber industry is teak (Tectona grandis) because of its very high quality. This study aims to determine the changes in the value of vitality indicators and health value status of teak community forests in Rulung Helok Village, Natar District to better understand the importance of forest health in realizing sustainable forest management. The method used in this research is Forest Health Monitoring (FHM). This research was conducted twice in June 2020 and January 2022. The results shows that the change in the value of vitality indicators in the value of measurement 1 and measurement 2 experienced changes in vitality indicators which tended to increase. The assessment of each teak forest health indicator with an average measurement of 1 is 2.44 in the good category (cluster plots 2, 6, 7, and 8) the medium category is absent and the bad category (cluster plots 1, 3, 4, and 5) and the average of the 2nd measurement is 1.75 in the good category (cluster plots 2, 4, and 6), the medium category (cluster plot 8), and the bad category (cluster plots 1, 3, 5, and 7 ). The status of changes in the 1st and 2nd measurements of the health of teak community forests obtained an average category of medium. This is due to the occurrence of tree damage in each cluster-plot.
