The relevance of reputation in the nonprofit sector: the moderating effect of socio‐demographic characteristics

Abstract: • This paper extends prior research on the reputation of nonprofit organizations (NPOs) by investigating the moderating role of socio-demographic characteristics in forming NPO reputation and reputation's effects on donating and volunteering behavior. The findings offer new insights into the role an NPO's reputation plays and its effects on key outcomes such as willingness to donate and work as a voluntary member in specific subgroups. The results show that successful reputation management is specifically impo… Show more

“…This study employs an importance-performance matrix analysis (IPMA) [136,137] to further elaborate the PLS-SEM results by considering the performance of each individual construct. For a particular target construct, the IPMA exhibits the structural model's total effects (importance) on the x-axis, and the average values of each latent variable scores (performance) on the y-axis, in order to highlight the significant areas that need special attention for improvement.…”

“…It is a useful tool in PLS-SEM to identify the predecessor constructs' relative importance in shaping a certain target construct (Ringle & Sarstedt, 2016). More specifically, for a targeting construct, the IPMA contrasts the predecessor constructs' relative importance (total effects) and the average values of the latent variable scores (performance) to highlight significant areas of improvements for managers (Schloderer, Sarstedt, & Ringle, 2014). …”

“…Specifically, by assessing IPMA the impact of latent variables with a relatively high importance and relatively low performance on a particular endogenous latent variable would be identified (Hock, Ringle, & Sarstedt, 2010). Subsequently, IPMA results provide managerial insights to address and improve the identified areas with high importance and low performance (Hock et al, 2010;Schloderer, Sarstedt, & Ringle, 2014). Table 2 illustrates the results of IPMA and Figure 3 visualizes the IPMA results for the two criterions of 'psychological adaptation' and 'sociocultural adaptation'.…”
