The reliability of free buccal fat graft for treatment of severe gingival recessions at mandibular and maxillary exposed roots

Abstract: Introduction:The occurrence of gingival recessions (GRs) is multifactorial, mainly due to trauma induced by traumatic toothbrushing, orthodontic tooth movement, as well as anatomical factors such as bone dehiscence, teeth malposition, and muscle pull. Fat tissue in the oral cavity is widely available and easily accessed. The use of pedicled buccal fat pad (BFP) graft is well known in maxillofacial surgery and has been shown promising results, becoming safe and effective graft for several clinical applications.… Show more

“…It was used for gingival recessions treatment in both jaws in anterior and posterior regions with good results. 13 De Castro et al used it for Closure of an Oronasal Fistula in a Cleft Palate Patient, it was used in the treatment of the peri-implantitis, the fat graft due to the fibrous healing enhance the clinical attachment level around the implant and prevent the recurrence, the treated implants with this manner have wonderful aesthetic results. 15 To enhance soft tissue closure after bone augmentation and to increase the thickness of the gingiva, 16 the most healing characteristic of the free fat graft was fibrosis.…”

“…The introduction of the free BPF (FBPF) graft in 2011 represented a clinical innovation, with subsequent studies evaluating its reliability in various intraoral surgical reconstructions, including GR treatment [ 27 , 28 ]. The merits of FBPF include donor site accessibility to the surgeon, minimal site morbidity, and minimal patient discomfort.…”
