The Removal of Elemental Mercury by Potassium Permanganate-modified Rice Husk Ash Sorbents

Abstract: The elemental mercury (Hg 0 ) capture of potassium permanganate (KMnO 4 )-modified calcium-based with rice husk ash sorbent (CaO/RHA) was first tested to evaluate the effectiveness of Hg 0 adsorption. The KMnO 4 modified CaO/RHA performances were compared with that of modified Ca-based with fly ash sorbent (CaO/FA). The effects of supports, pore size distribution, oxidants loading, temperature, and gas mixture were also investigated to understand the mechanism in capturing Hg 0 . The CaO/RHA/KMnO 4 sorbent cou… Show more

“…The XRD peaks of the crystalline KMnO 4 phase increased with increased KMnO 4 loading. An obvious crystalline KMnO 4 phase in the XRD patterns has been reported for amorphous SiO 2 . Using the impregnation method, these results confirmed the successful loading of KMnO 4 on the SC-ASA.…”
