The requirements for maintenance management systems (MMS) at Malaysian polytechnic: a case study

Abstract: PurposeThe conventional methods practiced by Development and Facilities Management Unit (UPPF) faced issues due to management deficiencies and negligent staffs to handle operation and maintenance processes of Chemical Facility (CFs) management at Malaysian Polytechnic. The prime objective of this paper is to improve the conventional methods which tend to be both cumbersome and ineffective in the Maintenance Management Systems (MMS) for UPPF at Malaysian Polytechnic.Design/methodology/approachPrimary data was g… Show more

“…This approach is typically operated in software, referred to as Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Some considerations of benefits and relevant characteristics of CMMS are addressed in several publications, such as a robust digital database on building elements [4,5]; Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to assess whether maintenance performance is satisfactory [6,7]; an improved performance when addressed with new technological features (Building Information Modeling (BIM), Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR), as well as the use of Internet of Things (IoT) sensors) [8].…”

“…Zul-Altfi Ismail's study suggests that conventional maintenance management methods lack defect diagnosis tools and strategic decision-making for information analysis in maintenance-related project outcomes. The proposed maintenance management system aimed at reducing the number of overhauls and repairs, thereby reducing cost (Ismail, 2022). Pant and Singh modeled a system subjected to random inspections with hidden failures (Pant and Singh, 2022).…”

“…Maintenance management system is a pivotal tool to ensure system's availability and reliability. Planning and scheduling processes are part of improving maintenance work management performance (Palmer, 2013; Ismail, 2022). Maintenance managers require decision-making tools and models to plan resources effectively and efficiently to support physical assets.…”
