The Research of Ecological and Economic Benefits for Green Roof

Abstract: Green roofs are a passive cooling technique that stop incoming solar radiation from reaching the building structure below. Many studies have been conducted over the past 10 years to consider the potential building energy benefits of green roofs and shown that they can offer benefits in winter heating reduction as well as summer cooling. With review and summarized the description of its functional traits in our country, this paper discuss the necessity to carry out the research on the functional traits of green … Show more

“…Green roofs add thermal resistance to the building, with consequent cooling effects of the building in summer months. The green roof layers, indeed, absorbs fewer solar radiations than the other types of roofs, with consequent monetary savings associated with cooling of the spaces under green roofs A study from the Japan revealed that green roofs can reduce the surface temperature from 30 °C TO 60 °C (Yang 2011).…”

“…Shading effects have a key role to provide thermal comfort for the dwellers living in green roof buildings. Due to the substantial contribution to the thermal comfort, energy consumption and energy spending by dwellers tend to decrease after the installation of the green roof systems on the buildings [62]. Based on the studies with related leaf thickness and coverage thickness, these parameters play an important role in the thermal regulation for buildings.…”

“…Green and ecological roofs are covered with soil and plant layers in the upper layer. Between the roof sheet and the green part, there are layers such as drainage, root holding layer, moisture holding layer, water insulation, heat insulation [18][19][20]. Green roofs are divided into two as dense and widespread green roofs according to the depth of the layer carrying the plant and the type of vegetation.…”
