The risk of cardiovascular complications in inflammatory bowel disease

Abstract: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic, relapsing disease of unknown etiology involving gastrointestinal tract. IBD comprises two main entities: ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. Several studies showed increased risk of cardiovascular complications in chronic inflammatory disorders, especially during IBD relapses. Endothelium plays a role in physiologic regulation of vascular tone, cell adhesion, migration and resistance to thrombosis. Also, its dysfunction is associated with increased risk of ath… Show more

“…Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis (UC) are two clinical manifestations of IBD characterized by chronic recurrent intestinal inflammation. Although the etiology of IBD remains largely unknown, it involves complex interactions between genetic, environmental or microbial factors and immune response ( Czubkowski et al, 2020 ). The common feature of IBD immune response is that mast cells, monocytes, macrophages and neutrophils invade the colonic epithelial layer, and then amplify the inflammatory process.…”

“…A potential link between CVD and gastrointestinal disorders [78][79][80][81] is in line with the lack of effectiveness of ColonVita on CGS in people with CGS-CVD comorbidity than in people without CGS-CVD comorbidity. It is known that myocardial ischemia and infarction can induce intestinal angina-related diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting [82,83].…”

“…Атеросклероз в настоящее время рассматривается как хроническая воспалительная реакция артериальной стенки, в которую вовлечены cосудистый эндотелий, клетки крови, биологически активные вещества. В атерогенезе участвуют механизмы врожденного и адаптивного иммунитета [6].…”
